— The Story —
We built the business we once thought was impossible.
From the field to the boardroom. A journey of grit, expensive mistakes, and the systems that changed everything.
“We didn’t start with a business degree. We started with a pair of boots and a willingness to work harder than anyone else.”
For years, we believed that growth was just a byproduct of effort. We thought that if we took more calls, closed more deals, and pushed our crews harder, the freedom we wanted would eventually arrive.
We were wrong.
What we actually built was a high-pressure cage. The more the revenue grew, the more the business depended on us. We were the primary salesperson, the project manager, the problem solver, and the emergency contact.
The “We Love Paving” Era
This is where it all became real. We founded a paving company, and it became our laboratory. It was through scaling that company from a small operation to a multi-million dollar enterprise that we discovered the ceiling every tradesman eventually hits.
We realized that being a great craftsman is not the same as being a great CEO. To make the jump from $500K to $2M and beyond, we had to stop working in the business and start building the systems that allowed it to work without us.
We had to fix the “dirty books,” master the cash flow, and learn how to recruit people who were better at their jobs than we were. It was painful, it was expensive, and at times, it was demoralizing.
But it worked.
Today, we don’t just run a business; we lead an organization. And that is why this site exists.
Why I write this
We’re not an agency, and we’re not a “coach” who never swung a hammer. We’re a team that survived the growth trap. We write for the owners who are currently where we used to be: doing $1M in revenue but taking home less profit and more stress than when they were doing $400K.
Our goal is to give you the blueprint we wish we had. No fluff, no generic business advice, just the systems, the finance, and the mindset shifts required to turn your trade into a legacy.
