— The Story —
I built the business I once thought was impossible.
From the field to the boardroom. A journey of grit, expensive mistakes, and the systems that changed everything.
“I didn’t start with a business degree. I started with a pair of boots and a willingness to work harder than anyone else.”
For years, I believed that growth was just a byproduct of effort. I thought that if I took more calls, closed more deals, and pushed my crews harder, the freedom I wanted would eventually arrive.
I was wrong.
What I actually built was a high-pressure cage. The more the revenue grew, the more the business depended on me. I was the primary salesperson, the project manager, the problem solver, and the emergency contact.
The “We Love Paving” Era
This is where it all became real. I founded We Love Paving, and it became my laboratory. It was through scaling that company from a small operation to a multi-million dollar enterprise that I discovered the ceiling every tradesman eventually hits.
I realized that being a great craftsman is not the same as being a great CEO. To make the jump from $500K to $2M and beyond, I had to stop working in the business and start building the systems that allowed it to work without me.
I had to fix the “dirty books,” master the cash flow, and learn how to recruit people who were better at their jobs than I was. It was painful, it was expensive, and at times, it was demoralizing.
But it worked.
Today, I don’t just run a business; I lead an organization. And that is why this site exists.
Why I write this
I’m not an agency, and I’m not a “coach” who never swung a hammer. I’m a founder who survived the growth trap. I write for the owners who are currently where I used to be: doing $1M in revenue but taking home less profit and more stress than when they were doing $400K.
My goal is to give you the blueprint I wish I had. No fluff, no generic business advice, just the systems, the finance, and the mindset shifts required to turn your trade into a legacy.
